HOW WE ORGANISE OURSELVES
This coming week in KG2 we will be starting our new unit of inquiry
'How we organise ourselves' with the focus being on Transportation Systems.
The Unit of Inquiry will focus on the Central Idea; ‘Transportation systems vary based on the environment and people's needs.’
We will be emphasising some of the key concepts through this unit of inquiry, these being Function (how does it work?), Form (What is it like?), Connection (How is it connected?) and Reflection (How do we know?).
Our lines of Inquiry are:-Transporting people, animals and things(Form/Function)
-Constructing transportation systems (Connection)
-Making transportation choices (Reflection)
-Measuring weight, distance and time(causation/reflection)
Through investigation, discussion and exploration we will be looking at how these systems are important to the needs of our community.
Over the next few weeks we will be engaging in learning experiences to familiarise ourselves with different transportation systems. Ask your child about what they are constructing in the classroom or in the outdoor discovery area. There will be a upcoming field trip requiring parent help, this will be sent out soon.

- Look at the different types of transportation and how they work.
- Compare transportation systems in our community with others that you have visited from around the world.
- Talk about how transport systems are connected, ie before you get on a plane you first need to travel to the airport
- When out shopping ask about how things are transported to the supermarket
- Consider choices you make in organising your lives to make it easier - do you choose a basket or trolley at the supermarket? What bag do you take to school?
