Book Character Dress Up Day Here are our costumes from book character dress up day! Don't we look great! Star Student
Congratulations to this weeks Star Student for showing us that they can be Caring KG2 Assembly On Tuesday May 31st, all KG2 students will be participating in the KG2 assembly. We will be singing a song and talking about Affirmation. Please come along and support our KG2 students as they take the stage for the last time this year :) Assembly will begin at 8:30am. Volunteer Lunch Our class has been asked to sing at the Volunteer Lunch on Tuesday as well. We are very excited for this opportunity! I will video them singing and post it to the Seesaw App for everyone to see. Seesaw I hope you are all enjoying the videos and pictures that I have been posting to the Seesaw app. It's great to be able to share so much of our learning with all of you! I also feel this is a great app for parents who travel frequently as they can still see what we have been up to in the classroom. One concern that a parent has brought to my attention is the amount of emails that get sent through the app. You can configure your email notification setting so that you don't receive emails from the app and instead will just receive a notification (like an imessage) directly on the app logo on your phone. As mentioned before, I am currently trialing this app and appreciate your patience as we learn to use it together. It has been great to see that so many people have been viewing the videos, and I love reading all the comments you are leaving. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Book Character Dress up
_______________________________________________________________________ Come celebrate Ramadan with us Dear Teachers, Parents and Students, Ramadan is a special month of year in which Muslims around the world fast from sunrise to sunset. It is a time of gratitude, reflection and of giving to those less fortunate. During this month, the breaking of the fast is called Iftar and is an opportunity for families and friends to come together and be appreciative of our many blessings. According to this year’s lunar calendar, Ramadan is predicted to start on 6th June. To celebrate this occasion, the Islamic Department and GWA have prepared an Iftar at school on Wednesday 8th June from 6.30-8.30pm in the school cafeteria. Thanks to GWA and our generous parents, food and drinks (and sweets!) will be provided free of charge. In line with the values of the IB Learner Profile, packages of food will also be prepared and distributed to laborers around Dubai. We have organized a special program for the evening, which includes an array of international food, an Eid bazaar, Islamic songs and fun quizzes and games for the kids. If you would like to bring some of your nations traditional dishes to contribute, please do so on the night, which would be greatly appreciated. Prizes will be given for Most Delicious Dish and Best Decorated Dish, so bring your ‘A Game’. All Families are welcome and we look forward to seeing you. Please help us get prepared by filling in this google survey. Congratulations to this weeks Star Student for showing us that he can be Balanced!! We hope you had a fabulous weekend with Chuck and can't wait to hear all about his adventure Arabic Assembly Just a reminder that the Arabic Assembly is tomorrow. Please see the message below for information on what the students are supposed to wear. Looking forward to seeing all of you! Everyone should have received an invite to the Arabic Assembly on May 23rd at 8:30am. Please see the following details from Ms. Mufida. Please email her directly if you have any questions [email protected]
Dear parents, Students of KG2 will be presenting their Arabic dances and songs on Monday 23rd of May, we are requesting that you dress your children as follows: KG2AL Boys - Yellow or purple t-shirts with school shorts Girls - Black or white Leggings and Yellow or purple t-shirt. Girls will be wearing skirts provided by school There has been lots of excitement this last week in class and we have some exciting field trips, visitors and activities happening over the next few weeks here in KG2! Time We have been learning all about clocks in class and have been learning about the minute hand and hour hand, the purpose of a clock and how to tell time to the hour. Here are some pictures of us learning to use a clock! Unit of Inquiry "How We Express Ourselves"
We have been learning about moving and static images in class and talking about different ways to respond to these images. On Sunday we will be visiting the planetarium to watch "Finding Nemo" in 3D. We will then have a local artist visiting us on Monday to talk about his local photography. Field Trip On Tuesday May 24th we will be visiting the Moving Images Museum in Tecom. The permission slip will be sent home via email. Please respond to my email indicating whether your child will or will not be attending. This will be a short trip so students will not be required to bring anything with them. Seesaw We have been testing out a new program this month called "Seesaw". Seesaw is an electronic portfolio where we can share your child's learning and the different activities that we are doing in class and in our specials. We are looking at moving to an Electronic portfolio model next year, instead of the large binders that we currently use. We feel that the videos and pictures better reflect what we do in class since we encourage a hands on inquiry and play based program for our young students. I will be sending you each a link so that you can access your child's Seesaw account to see what we have been doing in class. You can share this link with other family members that may not be in the country as well. Since we are testing this program, it will not necessarily be updated regularly. We will be adding to it as opportunities arise. Please bare this in mind when sending the link to family members and also when checking the account. Star Student Congratulations to this Star Student for showing us hey can be open-minded!! Photos from Today. Here are the different ways we are helping the environment!
Environmental Week Tomorrow is Green day! Students can come to school in non-uniform if they are wearing the colour green (or something that has a bit of green in it) Thursday Dress Up I have sent an email to everyone with the "character" that your child wants to be on Thursday. The kids have come up with these ideas on their own so it would be greatly appreciated if you can support this by helping them to find something to wear. Ex. "Aquarium Helper" - you could have your child wear a polo shirt and write "Dubai Aquarium" on the back. They can then carry a little bucket filled with pretend seeds or rice to be the fish food. Readers I have updated everyone's home readers to reflect their current Independent reading level. Please remember that this level should be easy enough that students can read it unassisted. We generally use the 5 finger rule. If a student has trouble with 5+ words then the book is considered too difficult and is not at their independent reading level. This is usually 2-3 words at level 1 and 2. School Dance There is information about the school dance posted on the main KG2 page. If your child is going to attend the dance then please make sure to sign them up ahead of time. Students will be taken to the auditorium and then to the dance where they will be supervised. Parents will pick up at the end of the dance. There will be beverages and food for purchase if you would like to send money, Please send this in a labeled envelope.
