We have started our new Unit of Inquiry ‘How we express ourselves’.
An inquiry into the ways in which we discover and express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, beliefs and values; the ways in which we reflect on, extend and enjoy our creativity; our appreciation of the aesthetic. The Unit of Inquiry will focus on the Central Idea: Images communicate ideas and information that may create a response. We will be emphasizing some of the key concepts through this unit of inquiry, these being: Form (what is it like?) Function (how does it work?) Perspective (what are the points of view?) Lines of Inquiry are: • Static and moving images • Responding to images • Media choices to convey a message Over the next few weeks we will be doing many activities to familiarise ourselves with a variety of still and moving images and looking at how images communicate or inform. We will also be creative when interpreting and responding to images. Home Links There are many ways in which you can help at home to enrich your child’s learning experience. Here are just some ideas: • Introduce new vocabulary related to emotion – worried, anxious, • Look at work by various artists and discuss how the image makes them feel • Play music and discuss the emotions they feel when listening to it • Show children a picture and ask them to choose a colour that matches how they feel about the picture – for happy they might choose yellow, discuss why. • Look at different types of images around your home A little bit of help If you are a budding photographer or artist and would be willing to come and talk to the kids about the process or thought that goes behind an image/painting please let us know. ![]() Dear Parents, Next Tuesday 23rd May, there will be a parent information session regarding the KG2 transition to Grade 1.
