On Sunday we started our new Unit of Inquiry 'How the World Works' and the focus of this unit is on Light and Sound.
An inquiry into the natural world and its laws; the interaction between the natural world (physical and biological) and human societies; how humans use their understanding of scientific principles; the impact of scientific and technological advances on society and on the environment.
This Unit of Inquiry will focus on the Central Idea; ‘Light and sound affect the way we experience the world.’
We will be emphasising several key concepts through this unit of inquiry, these being change (How does it change?) and function (How does it work?) and form (What is it like?) .
Some of the questions that will be used to direct our studies will be:
*What do you know about light/ sound?
*What would our world be like without light and sound?
*How are shadows formed?
*Why are light and sound important?
*Where does light/ sound come from?
*What are the uses of light and sound?
*How can we manipulate/ change light and sound?
During our unit we will be doing experiments to discover answers to these questions and further develop our understanding of why light and sound play such an important role in our everyday lives.
